Spot bitcoin ETFs drew $998.95 million on Monday, the largest single-day inflow in 11 months and the ninth-largest since the funds began trading in January 2024.

BlackRock's IBIT led the day with $381.4 million, followed by Ark & 21Shares' ARKB at $289.1 million and Fidelity's FBTC at $238.8 million, according to SoSoValue data. Funds from Grayscale, Bitwise and Morgan Stanley also logged positive flows, with no per-issuer breakdown provided.

Bitcoin briefly cleared $87,000 during the session before retreating. The quarter has lifted the price 44% to roughly $85,000, outperforming gold.

What the $999M day looks like in context

Monday's inflow is the largest single-day since Oct. 6, 2025, the day spot funds took in about $1.2 billion and bitcoin hit a record near $126,200. It pushes the September month-to-date tally to $1.31 billion, following August's $3.52 billion. Spot funds remain down $450 million on a year-to-date basis despite the recent gains, and the inflow capped a three-day streak of gains, the first in two weeks.

What traders said was behind it

Presto Research's Min Jung said Monday's unusually large ETF inflows likely added momentum by signaling renewed institutional demand, a theme several analysts echoed. ViaBTC's Jeff Ko said bitcoin cleared the $82,000 level that had capped the market earlier, and the breakout likely brought systematic strategies back in.

Zeus Research's Dominick John said the move above $85,000 signals a broader repricing of risk, underpinned by renewed institutional allocation, short-covering and a more supportive macro backdrop. He pointed to positive funding and elevated open interest as evidence of renewed long exposure, with continued short liquidations and persistent spot demand cited as potential momentum extenders.

BTSE COO Jeff Mei cited macro factors: oil prices dropped, Treasury yields eased, and a Trump-Xi meeting this week could produce breakthroughs on AI, trade and the Iran conflict.

The macro backdrop

The inflow arrived days after bitcoin absorbed a one-two punch of a failed Senate cloture vote on the Clarity Act and a Federal Reserve interest-rate increase. Crypto liquidations totalled $1.06 billion over 24 hours, including $844 million in shorts, per CoinGlass data, as traders watched whether bitcoin could hold above $85,000 and ether above $2,700. Spot Ethereum ETFs pulled $269.98 million on Monday, their largest single-day inflow since Oct. 7, 2025.
