Strategy Buys 250 Bitcoin and Retires $192.4M of STRC

Strategy bought 250 Bitcoin for $21.5 million and repurchased $192.4 million of STRC in the same week, spending nearly nine times more on the buyback.

Strategy bought 250 Bitcoin for $21.5 million and repurchased $192.4 million of its own STRC preferred stock in the same week, according to the company's capital markets update dated October 12, 2026.

The buyback is nearly nine times the size of the Bitcoin purchase. That is the part worth reading twice if you hold MSTR or STRC. The company is currently spending more retiring one slice of its own capital structure than it is on the asset the whole structure was built to hold.

Both numbers cover the period from October 5 to October 11, 2026, and both are drawn from the same announcement.

The Bitcoin Side: 250 Coins Funded by MSTR Sales

Strategy paid an average of $86,194 per coin, inclusive of fees and expenses. That is above the $75,444 average it carries across everything it owns, which means this week's coins were bought at a premium to its own lifetime cost.

Total holdings stood at 848,250 BTC as of October 11, 2026, with an aggregate purchase price of $64.00 billion.

The funding split is narrow. Of the $21.5 million, $21.0 million came from net proceeds of MSTR stock sales and $0.5 million came from USD Cash. To raise that $21.0 million, Strategy sold 125,183 MSTR shares through its at-the-market offering. The company has kept up a steady pace of weekly purchases, a pattern worth watching against its remaining capacity, which is the question our last look at that pace raised.

The Bitcoin purchase is small next to the balance sheet behind it. It is also the smaller half of this particular week.

The Buyback Is Nearly Nine Times the Bitcoin Purchase

Strategy repurchased 1,932,145 STRC shares for an aggregate $192.4 million. Every share repurchased across all securities in the period was STRC. STRC is the company's Variable Rate Series A Perpetual Stretch Preferred Stock.

After that spending, $354.8 million of aggregate purchase price remains available under the preferred stock repurchase program. A separate program for MSTR stock has $1.0 billion left.

The two programs pull from different pockets, and the numbers behind them are large. Strategy had $18,807.6 million of MSTR stock available for issuance and sale and $17,510.8 million of STRC available as of October 11, 2026, before accounting for what has already been sold.

No STRF, STRK or STRD preferred stock was sold during the week. STRF had $1,619.3 million available for issuance and sale.

The Cash Set Aside for Dividends

Strategy held $4.88 billion in its USD Reserve and $640.5 million in USD Cash as of October 11, 2026. The USD Reserve is intended to support payment of dividends on the company's preferred stock and interest on its outstanding debt.

That is the line that links the two halves of this update. Strategy is retiring preferred stock while sitting on a reserve earmarked for the dividends those securities pay. Buying back STRC reduces the shares that a dividend has to be paid on, and the $192.4 million came out of a week when Bitcoin buying was funded almost entirely by selling common stock.

Strategy's own press page was not reachable when this article was written. These figures come from the release text as published on the wire.

The next things to watch are the pace of the weekly Bitcoin purchases and how much of the remaining $354.8 million in preferred repurchase capacity gets used. Both come out of the same at-the-market machine, and this week the machine leaned toward the buyback.
