Sui Introduces Agent Pass to Set Spending Limits for AI Agents

Sui introduced Agent Pass at Basecamp 2026 to help developers control AI agent spending, adding to its wider push toward safer autonomous payments.

Sui has introduced Agent Pass, a feature designed to help developers control how much money AI agents can spend while acting on their behalf. The announcement came at Sui Basecamp 2026 in Singapore, where the network highlighted tools for safer autonomous payments.

The feature addresses a growing concern as AI agents move beyond answering questions and begin paying for services, running workflows and making transactions without constant human approval.

How Sui Agent Pass Could Work

AI agents can perform tasks independently, but giving them access to money creates new risks. An agent could make unnecessary purchases, repeat paid requests or spend more than its user intended.

Agent Pass is designed to help developers set boundaries around this activity. Instead of allowing an agent to spend without limits, developers can define how much it is permitted to spend.

The exact technical specifications and available controls for Agent Pass have not yet been fully detailed publicly. However, Sui's existing payment infrastructure already supports programmable spending permissions that can limit what an authorised account can spend and allow that permission to be revoked.

These controls could be important for applications that let AI agents purchase digital services, pay for API requests or manage recurring transactions.

Why Spending Limits Matter for AI Payments

Traditional online payments often require a person to approve a purchase. AI agents are designed to complete tasks with less intervention, which means payment systems need ways to enforce the user's instructions automatically.

For example, a developer could give an AI agent a limited budget to purchase computing resources or access paid data services. Spending controls could help keep its activity within the authorised amount rather than giving it unrestricted access to funds.

Sui has been developing its wider agent-payment infrastructure around this idea. Its Payment Intents system is designed to let a single request trigger multiple actions across applications and settle them in one transaction. The network also supports programmable permissions that can define how, when and to whom an agent may pay.

Agent Pass adds to Sui's push to make autonomous payments easier to control. Spending limits can reduce financial risk, although they do not by themselves guarantee that an AI agent will make sensible decisions or prevent every type of misuse.

Sui Targets the Growing Agentic Payments Market

The announcement fits into a broader race to build payment systems for AI agents. These systems aim to let software pay for tools and services directly, without requiring a person to approve every transaction.

Other crypto networks are also exploring this market. XRPL recently passed 10 million tracked x402 payments, highlighting growing attention around payments initiated by software. That figure measures tracked payments, however, and does not by itself establish the level of real-world demand.

For Sui, the challenge is to combine autonomous payments with clear rules about how money can be used. Developers need agents that can complete tasks efficiently without exposing users to uncontrolled spending.

What Happens Next?

Agent Pass signals another step in Sui's effort to support AI agents as economic participants. Its practical impact will depend on the controls developers can configure, how those limits are enforced and when the feature becomes available for broader use.

Sui has not yet published enough public detail to confirm the full feature set or rollout schedule. For now, Agent Pass is best understood as part of the network's wider push toward controlled, programmable payments for AI agents.

If the implementation delivers enforceable spending limits that developers can integrate easily, it could help make autonomous payments safer for applications that need to spend money without constant human supervision.

Sui just gave AI agents a spending limit. sui:native's Agent Pass lets you decide how much an agent can move and where it can send it. What if an agent gets compromised? The damage stops at the limit you set. Because apparently even your AI needs a credit limit.
