Authorities in Texas are seriously pushing on with plans to launch a Bitcoin reserve.
Texas Lieutenant Governor Dan Patrick noted that establishing a Texas Bitcoin reserve was one of the state’s priorities for 2025.
The move puts Texas alongside other states like Utah and Arizona in pushing for a Bitcoin reserve. Several key Texas lawmakers are backing the move. Senator Charles Schwertner believes a BTC reserve would put Texas at the forefront of the digital asset boom and strengthen the state’s economic freedom.
Texas and the other US states see BTC reserves as a modern strategy to protect against inflation and ensure economic progress. Holding BTC in its reserve would enable Texas to diversify its treasury and unlock more opportunities for the state.
Thanks to its cheap electricity, renewable energy sources, and crypto-friendly regulations, Texas already has a huge Bitcoin mining industry. Many Bitcoin miners have moved to the state, strengthening its position as a leader in the blockchain industry.
The idea of a US national Bitcoin reserve is also gaining traction. President Donald Trump has listed a BTC reserve as one of his administration’s priorities. Other states are also pushing for a BTC reserve. If Texas successfully establishes its reserve, it could inspire more states—and even the federal government—to follow suit.
