Visa Moves USDC Prefunding for Visa Direct Into Commercial Use

Visa says stablecoin prefunding on Visa Direct is live, with Inyo Global the first processor funding cross-border payouts in USDC.

Visa said on 15 October 2026 that stablecoin prefunding on Visa Direct has advanced from pilot stage to commercial deployment, putting USDC into the funding side of cross-border payouts. Inyo Global, a Visa Direct processor, is the first enabler of the offering and has integrated the capability into its platform.

The change sits on the business side, not the consumer one. Prefunding is the balance a company parks with a payments network before payouts go out. Businesses Inyo serves can now top that up with USDC in near real time instead of relying solely on traditional funding windows, according to Visa's announcement.

Inyo says the stablecoin route runs through the same Inyo APIs its clients already use and is available around the clock. Through a single connection, it added, the platform can send domestic and international payouts across more than 180 countries, powered by Visa Direct.

Inyo Is the First Processor to Switch It On

Inyo is a licensed payment infrastructure provider serving financial institutions and fintechs, and it is the first to enable the new offering for eligible Visa Direct clients and partners. Robson Dantas, Inyo's Chief Product and Technology Officer and co-founder, tied the launch to the customer experience rather than the rails underneath it.

"Innovation in money movement is ultimately about creating a better experience for customers, and that's exactly our focus at Inyo," Dantas said.

One limit is written into the announcement: availability varies by eligibility and geography. Visa did not name the markets or payment corridors included in this first commercial phase, so it is not yet clear which businesses can use USDC prefunding today and which have to wait.

A Year From SIBOS Pilot to Live Prefunding

Visa introduced stablecoin prefunding and payout pilot programs through Visa Direct in 2025, and the prefunding arm has now crossed into production.

  • At SIBOS 2025, Visa announced a stablecoin prefunding pilot letting businesses fund cross-border payments with stablecoins instead of fiat, aimed at banks, remitters and financial institutions managing liquidity across borders.
  • In that pilot, Visa treated businesses' stablecoins as "money in the bank," making the funds available for payout, and said it expected the program to reach limited availability by April 2026.
  • At Web Summit in November 2025, Visa announced a separate payout pilot, letting businesses and platforms send money to recipients' stablecoin wallets, funded in fiat and received in USD-backed stablecoins such as USDC. That one launched with select partners, with a broader rollout planned for the second half of 2026.

The prefunding pilot was a back-end treasury innovation, in Visa's own description. The commercial launch extends that piece, while the payout-to-wallet pilot remains on its own timeline.

Visa's Card Numbers Carry a Footnote

Visa says that in its fiscal second quarter, more than 160 stablecoin-linked card programs were live around the world, payment volume on those programs grew nearly 200% year over year, and stablecoin settlement volume recently surpassed a $20 billion annualized run rate, up more than 15 times year over year.

Read that last figure carefully. Visa footnotes it as per Visa itself and says it was to be confirmed with Investor Relations ahead of publication, so the $20 billion run rate is not fully settled. The program count and payment volume growth come from Visa's fiscal second quarter 2026 earnings call on 29 April 2026. The card side of the business has been growing for a while, as our earlier report on Visa's stablecoin card volume noted.

Platonova Takes the Case to Money20/20

Vira Platonova, Visa's Global Head of Visa Direct, framed the launch as the market outgrowing proof-of-concept work. "The next chapter for stablecoins is adoption," she said.

Platonova will discuss how stablecoins are reshaping global money movement at several Money20/20 USA sessions the following week, which gives the next public checkpoint for how Visa positions the rail. For now, the confirmed fact is narrow and concrete: one processor, USDC prefunding, live, with eligibility and geography still deciding who gets it.
