World Chain has become the first production layer-2 blockchain to deploy streamed EIP-7928 block access lists, marking a major milestone in blockchain scaling. The upgrade, scheduled to go live on August 17, allows validators to begin verifying transactions while blocks are still being built. By enabling parallel block verification, the network aims to reach up to one gigagas per second without increasing validator hardware requirements.

The launch positions World Chain ahead of Ethereum, where EIP-7928 is still part of the planned Glamsterdam upgrade. Instead of waiting for a future Ethereum hard fork, World Chain is bringing the proposal into production today through its flashblock architecture.

World Chain Introduces Parallel Block Verification

One of the biggest challenges facing blockchain networks is balancing speed with decentralization. As transaction volumes increase, validators typically need more powerful hardware to verify larger and more complex blocks. This can make running a validator more expensive, reducing the number of participants securing the network.

World Chain's new implementation tackles this challenge by allowing validators to verify transactions in parallel rather than processing them one after another.

The system relies on block access lists, which record the blockchain state that each transaction reads and writes. When transactions do not interact with the same data, they can be validated simultaneously across multiple CPU cores. This significantly reduces the time needed to verify a block while keeping the verification process secure.

According to World Chain, the approach allows throughput to increase without requiring validators to upgrade their hardware.

Flashblocks Enable Real-Time Validation

World Chain extends the proposed EIP-7928 standard by streaming access list information every 200 milliseconds using its existing flashblock architecture.

Traditionally, validators receive an entire block only after block production is complete. They then begin the verification process, creating a delay before the next stage of consensus.

With streamed block access lists, validators no longer need to wait. Instead, they receive transaction information continuously as the block is assembled, allowing verification to begin almost immediately.

This reduces overall validation latency and distributes the workload throughout block production instead of concentrating it at the end.

Targeting One Gigagas Per Second

Internal benchmark testing on World Chain's test networks showed promising results.

The company said validation latency remained nearly unchanged even as throughput increased significantly, reaching approximately one gigagas per second while running on standard cloud infrastructure.

Gigagas measures the amount of Ethereum Virtual Machine (EVM) computation that can be processed each second. A higher gigagas capacity enables networks to execute more smart contracts and process larger transaction volumes without sacrificing performance.

If these results hold on mainnet, World Chain could demonstrate that blockchain throughput can scale dramatically without proportionally increasing the computing resources needed by validators.

Shipping Before Ethereum

Although Ethereum developers have proposed EIP-7928 as part of the network's future roadmap, the feature has not yet reached Ethereum mainnet.

World Chain is accelerating adoption by deploying the functionality through a runtime flag instead of requiring a hard fork. Client operators can upgrade ahead of the August 17 rollout without coordinating a network-wide protocol change.

This simpler deployment process allows the network to introduce advanced scaling improvements while minimizing disruption for node operators.

The implementation also provides valuable real-world data that could help inform future Ethereum upgrades.

Why This Matters for Blockchain Scaling

Blockchain developers have long searched for ways to improve transaction throughput without sacrificing decentralization. Many scaling solutions increase performance but also raise hardware requirements, making independent validation more difficult.

World Chain's streamed implementation of EIP-7928 offers a different path. By enabling validators to perform parallel verification while blocks are still being built, the network improves efficiency without changing the economic barriers to participation.

The innovation could become an important step toward building high-performance blockchain infrastructure that remains accessible to a broad validator community.

As demand for decentralized applications, stablecoin payments, and global financial services continues to grow, technologies that improve scalability while preserving decentralization are becoming increasingly important.

With the August 17 mainnet launch, World Chain will become the first production network to deploy streamed EIP-7928 block access lists, demonstrating a practical implementation of an Ethereum roadmap proposal before Ethereum itself. If successful, the upgrade could influence how future layer-2 networks and eventually Ethereum approach blockchain scaling.
