Whales Move 231 Million XRP Off Binance as Traders Bet Against Rally

Whales moved 231 million XRP from Binance while rising open interest and heavy selling pressure signal growing bearish bets.

XRP is facing a growing market tug-of-war: large holders are pulling tokens from Binance while derivatives traders appear to be positioning for a decline.

XRP has gained about 11% over the past week, benefiting from the broader crypto market recovery. Yet the latest exchange and derivatives data suggest the rally is facing conflicting signals.

XRP Whale Withdrawals Hit Six-Month High

Whales withdrew approximately 231 million XRP from Binance, marking the largest whale outflow from the exchange in six months.

The withdrawals represented more than $335 million in XRP in a single day, far above the reported 90-day average of roughly $40 million.

Large withdrawals can reduce the amount of XRP immediately available for selling on exchanges, potentially supporting price if demand remains strong. However, exchange outflows alone do not prove that whales are accumulating, as tokens can also be moved to private custody or for other reasons.

The timing is notable, with the withdrawals coming during a sharp XRP recovery.

Derivatives Traders Send a Different Signal

While whales were moving XRP away from exchanges, derivatives activity pointed toward stronger selling pressure.

Binance’s net taker volume recorded its strongest sell-side imbalance of 2026 at around -$96 million, indicating that aggressive sellers significantly outpaced buyers.

At the same time, XRP open interest on Binance increased approximately 14.8%. Rising open interest alongside heavy selling can indicate that new bearish positions are entering the market, although the data alone cannot confirm that every new position is a short.

That creates an important divergence.

Spot flows appear supportive, while leveraged positioning is becoming more defensive.

XRP Rally Faces a Key Test

The conflicting signals leave XRP at an important point. Whale withdrawals could reduce exchange-side selling pressure, but growing derivatives exposure could amplify volatility if the market turns lower.

For now, $1.40 remains an important level to watch. Holding above it would keep the recent recovery structure intact, while a decisive break below could strengthen the bearish case.

The next move may ultimately depend on which side wins this tug-of-war: long-term holders moving XRP into custody or leveraged traders betting that the rally has gone too far.
