AI Detects Suspicion in $CAR Token Video

$CAR has quickly hit a staggering $530 million market cap. However, the announcement has raised eyebrows.

With skeptics and AI tools questioning the authenticity of the president’s video unveiling the $CAR token.

$Car Token Launch Flagged Over Deepfake Concerns and Suspicious Website

On Feb. 9th, CAR President Faustion-Archange Touadera’s X account shared a video announcing $CAR as an “experiment” to aid national development and boost the country’s global presence. The token’s website features a statement from the president and a breakdown of its tokenomics. Yet, trouble started brewing when two AI deepfake detectors flagged the video as suspicious.

One tool, Deepware, indicated an 82% likelihood that the video was a deepfake, while another flagged it as questionable. Other models, like Avatrify, didn’t detect anything unusual, leaving the community divided. Some believe the project is genuine, while others suspect foul play, potentially a hack of the president’s X account.

Critics also pointed out inconsistencies. For example, the domain for the token’s website registered just three days before the announcement, was deemed suspicious. Yokai Ryujin, founder of Unrevealed XYZ, highlighted that the registration process looked amateurish and unfit for a government initiative. Namecheap, the domain provider, has since suspended the service, but the website remains live.

$CAR Token Launch Raises Doubts Over Timing and Language

Plus, the tweet was only in English, while the country’s official language is French.” Compounding the confusion, the official X account for the memecoin, @Carmeme_news, has been suspended. President Touadera stated he was working with X to restore the page.

This controversy comes amid a string of similar hacks in recent weeks, with scammers targeting high-profile X accounts, including those of a former Malaysian prime minister and Solana DEX aggregator Jupiter, to promote memecoin scams.
