How to Use CoinGecko’s New AI Tool

CoinGecko is one of the two leading crypto data aggregators. However, yesterday, it launched a new feature that may put it ahead of its competitor. That’s their CoinGecko MCP (Beta) AI tool. With this AI tool, you get access to live crypto market data. However, straight into your favorite AI like Claude. The new MCP feature is free and open to everyone.

So, what does this new CoinGecko MCP (Beta) AI tool bring to the table?

What Is the CoinGecko MCP (Beta) AI Tool?

The CoinGecko MCP (Beta) AI tool allows Large Language Models (LLMs) to interact with external data sources. However, as already mentioned, it’s in a Beta version. So, be aware that it can have bugs. Nonetheless, this is an amazing tool. MCP stands for Model Context Protocol. It lets AI models interact with external data. It gives context to an AI tool. As a result, the AI model can take real actions beyond their internal knowledge. 

If you like to use this AI tool with Claude, it’s best to upgrade to Claude Pro. To clarify, with the free version, you will hit message limits easily. The current Claude Pro plan is $20 per month. However, the free or desktop version will work.

• Find out about trending coins, NFTs, categories, top gainers and new coins on CoinGecko.
• Make full use of GeckoTerminal. Discover top, trending, new pools, and tokens.
• Get historical price, market data, OHLCV of all cryptocurrencies. OHLCV stands for Open, High, Low, Close, and Volume.
• Get a list of coins of any category. For instance, memecoins, DeFi, L1s, or AI agents.
• Find aggregated crypto price and market data of 15k+ coins. CoinGecko uses over 1k exchanges.

How to Connect Claude Pro to CoinGecko’s AI tool? 

To connect Claude Pro to CoinGecko’s new AI tool, follow these steps.

1 — Use the chat interface or go to CoinGecko’s settings. Click on ‘Add Integrations’. See the picture below.

2 — Add Server Name ‘CoinGecko MCP’ and MCP URL ‘https://mcp.api.coingecko.com/sse’ See the picture below.

Now you have access to CoinGecko’s MCP via Claude, including its desktop version.
