Ether and XRP ETFs Lose Money as Bitcoin Reclaims $77K

Ether and XRP ETFs saw fresh outflows as Bitcoin ETFs attracted $159 million and BTC climbed above $77,000. Zcash ETF demand also surged.

U.S. spot Ether and XRP ETFs recorded fresh outflows on Thursday even as Bitcoin climbed above $77,000 and major cryptocurrencies extended their recovery.

Spot Ether ETFs lost about $39 million, marking their third consecutive session of withdrawals. The funds had already shed roughly $224 million on Wednesday and $141 million on Tuesday, according to SoSoValue.

Ether still gained about 2% to around $2,470, showing that ETF flows and spot prices are not always moving in the same direction.

Bitcoin ETFs Return to Positive Flows

Bitcoin ETFs moved in the opposite direction, recording roughly $159 million in net inflows.

Bitcoin climbed more than 1% to around $77,216, while broader risk assets also rallied after the Federal Reserve raised interest rates by 25 basis points.

This follows a sharp reversal earlier in the week. U.S. spot Bitcoin ETFs lost $450.4 million on September 15, their largest daily outflow since June.

The latest inflow suggests institutional demand can quickly change as market conditions stabilize.

XRP ETFs Also See Outflows

XRP funds recorded roughly $5 million in net outflows, reversing the small inflow seen during the previous session.

The move comes after XRP faced significant volatility following the Senate's failure to advance the CLARITY Act. Bitcoin, Ethereum and XRP all suffered heavy losses after the vote, with more than $669 million in crypto liquidations reported.

Still, XRP ETF flows have shown stronger periods of institutional demand in recent weeks, making the latest withdrawal more useful as a short-term data point than a longer-term trend.

Zcash ETF Stands Out

Zcash was the major exception in the ETF data.

The single U.S. Zcash fund attracted nearly $47 million, its strongest showing in a month that has brought more than $230 million in total inflows.

ZEC also led major cryptocurrencies with a roughly 10% gain, reaching about $1,488. Hyperliquid's HYPE gained nearly 10%, while Solana rose about 5% and BNB gained almost 4%.

The divergence suggests that capital is not simply leaving crypto funds. Instead, flows are becoming more selective across assets.

Stocks and Crypto Rally Together

The broader market also provided support for crypto.

The S&P 500 gained about 1%, its strongest advance in six weeks, while the Nasdaq 100 rose nearly 2%. The 10-year Treasury yield also fell after an eight-session rise as oil prices declined.

Lower oil prices can ease inflation concerns and support both bonds and equities. Crypto has increasingly traded alongside broader risk assets this week, rather than moving independently.

Over the past 30 days, Ether ETFs remain more than $1.5 billion ahead in net flows, while Bitcoin ETFs are nearly $2.5 billion ahead.

For now, the key question is whether Bitcoin's renewed inflows continue while Ether and XRP funds remain under pressure. Zcash's unusually strong ETF demand is another flow trend worth watching.
