Ethereum’s Fusaka Upgrade Coming November 2025

Fusaka prepares Ethereum for bigger changes in 2026.

Following Ethereum’s Pectra upgrade in May, the network has scheduled its next major hard fork, Fusaka, for early November 2025. Fusaka, according to reports, will focus largely on backend improvements.

This means the changes won’t be as visible as Pectra, since the updates focus on behind-the-scenes changes, and will target scalability, efficiency, and node stability. Notably, the Fusaka upgrade will include 11 technical changes, called Ethereum Improvement Proposals (EIPs).

These improve the network’s performance but do not affect smart contracts. Key changes include faster data handling, better spam protection, fairer gas pricing, and new cryptography support. The gas limit will also rise, starting near 45 million units and moving toward 150 million.

Testing and Release

Developers started testing in July 2025 with a private devnet. Public testnets will run in September and October. The mainnet upgrade is planned for November 5. This date comes just before the Devconnect conference in Buenos Aires. Plus, the timing also fits Ethereum’s six-month upgrade cycle.

Fusaka is smaller in scope than other forks. Heavy proposals were left out to make testing faster and safer. The goal is to improve Ethereum’s core without disrupting existing apps.

What It Means

For developers, Fusaka means more transactions per block and better performance for rollups. Apps will keep running without changes. For users, the effects will be subtle; fees may be steadier, and transactions may clear faster during busy times.

There are trade-offs. A higher gas limit means more work for validators. Smaller operators could feel the strain. Even so, the upgrade aims to keep the network secure and decentralized.

Fusaka also prepares Ethereum for bigger changes in 2026. The next planned upgrade, Glamsterdam, may cut block times to six seconds. That would double the network’s speed and make transactions feel near-instant.

7/ Fusaka improves throughput, strengthens security, and reduces node requirements. ⚙️ It sets the stage for 2026’s Glamsterdam upgrade with faster block times and deferred EIPs.
