Here’s why Warsh’s Jackson Hole speech matter for Bitcoin and gold

Kevin Warsh's first Jackson Hole speech could influence expectations around Treasury buybacks, Fed policy and long-term yields, with potential implications for Bitcoin and gold.

Federal Reserve Chair Kevin Warsh’s first Jackson Hole keynote could become an important event for Bitcoin, gold and broader financial markets.

The key question is whether Warsh gives markets any reason to believe the Federal Reserve could eventually support the U.S. Treasury’s plan to increase buybacks of longer-dated government bonds. Any hint of coordination could strengthen the case for lower long-term yields and potentially support risk assets such as Bitcoin.

The Treasury announced plans to increase its long-duration bond buybacks to at least $4 billion per operation between Sept. 9 and Nov. 4. Markets have been watching the move closely as long-term Treasury yields remain elevated.

Why the Treasury buyback plan matters

The recent crypto rally has already been linked to expectations that the Treasury's actions could help ease financial conditions.

Bitcoin climbed sharply from around $64,000 to the $80,000 area during the broader market recovery, while gold also benefited from renewed interest in hard assets.

However, the Treasury's bond buyback program is not the same as quantitative easing. Buybacks alone do not create new money or directly inject liquidity into financial markets.

That is why Warsh's speech matters.

What markets will be listening for

If Warsh emphasizes Federal Reserve independence and describes the Treasury buybacks as routine debt-management operations, expectations of deeper policy support could weaken. Higher yields and a stronger dollar could then create pressure on Bitcoin and gold.

On the other hand, language suggesting that the Fed could eventually support efforts to contain longer term yields may reinforce expectations of increased liquidity and financial repression.

That scenario could provide another bullish catalyst for hard assets.

A major test for Bitcoin's momentum

Warsh does not necessarily need to announce a change in interest rates to move markets. Even subtle comments about the relationship between Treasury policy, bond yields and Federal Reserve operations could influence expectations.

The speech could therefore become an important test for Bitcoin's recent rally. A supportive message may strengthen the bullish liquidity narrative, while a more cautious stance could challenge the assumptions that helped push Bitcoin and other risk assets higher.

For crypto traders, the focus will be less on whether Warsh announces immediate policy changes and more on whether he leaves the door open to greater coordination between the Treasury and the Federal Reserve.
