Mastercard and BVNK Launch Global Money Platform for Stablecoins

Mastercard and BVNK launched a single-API platform that lets banks and fintechs hold, convert and spend stablecoins through Mastercard's card and payout rails.

Mastercard and BVNK launched the Mastercard Global Money Platform on 15 October, a single API that lets banks, fintechs and enterprises hold and convert fiat currencies and stablecoins, issue stablecoin-linked cards, and send payouts into local bank accounts. Mastercard said the platform is available now through BVNK.

For anyone holding stablecoins, the change is where those balances can go. Platform customers can spend stablecoin balances across Mastercard's acceptance network of hundreds of millions of merchant locations, with card issuing available in 130-plus countries. Payouts can be funded in fiat or stablecoins and settled into recipients' domestic bank accounts through Mastercard Move.

What Banks and Fintechs Can Build With It

The platform is plumbing rather than a consumer app. Banks, fintechs and enterprises embed multi-currency accounts, real-time conversion, stablecoin-linked cards and local payouts into their own products, under their own brand.

BVNK's launch post describes embedded global money accounts that can carry balances in fiat or digital currencies, with custodial and self-custodial options, real-time conversion and rewards on eligible balances. Local payouts run through Mastercard Move, which the companies say reaches more than 17 billion endpoints.

Mastercard called the launch the first major integration of its capabilities with BVNK since the acquisition of BVNK in August 2026. Mastercard had announced in March 2026 that it would acquire BVNK for up to $1.8 billion.

20+ Chains and Two Stablecoins

Through the same integration, businesses get access to 20-plus blockchain networks and payment rails, BVNK said, including new additions Stellar, Arc, Monad, Plasma and Tempo, as well as multiple stablecoins including USDC and OUSD. The point of listing them together is that a customer does not have to build a separate integration for each.

Virtual cards can be issued in 130-plus countries on a Mastercard acceptance network of more than 200 countries and territories. The platform is also built with upcoming support for agentic commerce and additional regulated digital assets including tokenized deposits.

Nuvei and Marqeta Are First in Line

Mastercard's investor release said payments firm Nuvei and card issuing platform Marqeta will be among the first to integrate, alongside Ontop and Almond FinTech. BVNK's own post names the same companies except for the fifth partner: it lists Bolt Group where Mastercard lists Beem. The two primary sources do not agree on that one name, and neither company has explained the difference.

Marqeta brings scale to the card side. It processed nearly $400 billion in annual payments volume in 2025, and it and BVNK announced a separate partnership on 9 September 2026 to deliver stablecoin-backed card capabilities. A post on that deal says all three companies support Open USD, a stablecoin standard, and that 77% of surveyed crypto users would open a stablecoin wallet through their primary bank or fintech app if one were available, from BVNK's 2026 Stablecoin Utility Report.

Nuvei chair and CEO Phil Fayer said stablecoins are becoming "an increasingly important part of that future" for global commerce. Marqeta chief strategy officer Anthony Peculic said the collaboration lets customers issue stablecoin-backed cards that work anywhere cards are accepted, without merchants changing how they accept payments.

The 2027 Coverage Target

Mastercard Move is expected to expand to more than 40 currencies across 200-plus countries and territories in 2027, from its current reach of more than 17 billion endpoints. That expansion is the part with a date on it; the rest is live now. The move sits alongside other settlement pushes, including Fiserv's launch on Solana.

Raj Dhamodharan, Mastercard's executive vice president for blockchain and digital assets, said the platform gives businesses "a single foundation to move value across traditional and digital ecosystems." Chris Harmse, BVNK's co-founder and chief business officer, said it will become "the single infrastructure layer not just for stablecoins, but for every form of money."

What the Companies Have Not Said

Mastercard and BVNK have not disclosed transaction volume targets or revenue expectations for the launch. The $350 billion annual figure that BVNK cites for digital currency payments is the market the platform is aimed at, not volume the platform itself has processed.

That gap matters for judging the launch. A single API and a partner list show intent; they do not yet show how much stablecoin money runs through Mastercard's rails, or how quickly the 2027 currency expansion arrives. The next things worth watching are the first integrators going live and whether the platform adds the tokenized deposits it has promised.
