Chainlink Link Vs Ondo – Which Altcoin Gains the Most in 2025?
Ondo Finance and Chainlink are both titans battling for dominance in the world of DeFi and RWA. However, which altcoin will come out on top?

Ondo Finance ($ONDO) and Chainlink ($LINK) battle it out today. They are two titans battling for dominance in the world of DeFi and RWA. On one side, we have a project and altcoin that redefines tokenized U.S. Treasuries. On the other hand, we have a project and altcoin that powers cross-chain RWA settlements. Both are big in the RWA sector. So, which one is the safer altcoin bet? Or should I rather look at the altcoin with the most explosive growth potential?
And, what if I tell you that they also work together? Still, I will pick one winner at the end of this video. So, stay tuned and find out which altcoin that is going to be.

RWAs and Their Cooperation
So, both are giants in the RWA sector. Ondo specializes in RWAs and Chainlink provides the infrastructure. See this list by CoinGecko. They share the #1 and #2 spots in the RWA crypto sector. If you want to find out more about each project, take a look at some of my videos about Ondo Finance or Chainlink. Here are the respective links.
Now, let’s first get their cooperation out of the way. That was actually a big deal. Besides Chainlink and Ondo, J.P. Morgan was also involved. Together, they managed to complete a cross-chain Delivery versus Payment (DvP) transaction. So, we saw a cross-chain atomic settlement. The interesting part is that the transaction took place between two very different blockchains. From the Kinexys Digital Payments’ permissioned blockchain network to Ondos’s layer-1 blockchain network. They transferred Ondo’s Short-Term U.S. Government Treasuries Fund ($OUSG).
This puts both projects in a different light. Both show that they have something special. They can work at institutional scale in tokenized asset markets with top-tier partners.
The Case for Ondo Finance ($ONDO)
Ondo Finance ($ONDO) is the first project that I will dissect today. So, let’s look at some reasons why Ondo could win this battle.
Focused on Tokenized U.S. Treasuries and Real-World Asset Yield
Ondo Finance offers direct exposure to tokenized short-term U.S. Treasuries. It does this with its current flagship products, the $USDY and $OUSG stablecoins. $USDY is accessible for both retail and institutions. However, the $OUSG stablecoin targets institutions. Both offer real yield. This is a feature that Chainlink doesn’t offer. So, risk-averse investors, like institutions, will like this. A lot.
Ondo’s Global Markets
This is the product that we’re waiting for. This platform can catapult Ondo Finance into real ‘stardom’. And recently, every time I talk about Ondo, I bring this up. And for good reasons.
With its Global Markets platform, Ondo brings, well, global markets on-chain. So, what do I mean by this? Well, imagine hundreds of publicly traded stocks, bonds, and ETFs come live on-chain. No more markets closure time. This will be 24/7 available, on-chain, without a middleman. Furthermore, it offers low costs, fast settlement, no more walled markets, and automated.
Etherscan already shows these hundreds of RWAs. They’re ready to hit the tokenized crypto market. Once this launches, you may want to keep an eye out on the $ONDO price. As Ondo says;
What stablecoins did for dollars, Ondo is doing for securities.
The $ONDO Price
Currently, $ONDO keeps going sideways around the $1 mark. It has a $3 billion market cap, so plenty of room for growth. Out of 10 billion $ONDO tokens, 3.15 billion circulate. Not great, but here is also some good news. Ondo only has one yearly unlock. This unlock isn’t due until January. So, pending on what state of the bull run we’re in, it’s quite possible that the market can absorb this unlock. However, be aware, it’s a serious big unlock.
The Case for Chainlink ($LINK)
Now let’s take the bull by the horn and see why Chainlink ($LINK) could win this battle.
The Chainlink Reserve
This is of course THE big event that recently lifted the $LINK token up. During the last 14 days, $LINK is up by almost 50%. But what is this Reserve? Well, Chainlink created its own strategic on-chain reserve of $LINK tokens. The reserve supports the long-term growth and sustainability of the Chainlink Network.
In a nutshell, the Reserve collects revenue from Chainlink’s services. This can be in the form of on-chain service usage. Or, for instance, large enterprises that are adopting the Chainlink standard. Either way, nothing is for free, so these services must be paid. Whether you pay in fiat or in stablecoins, the Reserve converts everything to $LINK. Now, the next step is that the Reserve locks this $LINK. In other words, they’re taken out of circulation. This creates scarcity and should benefit the $LINK price.
Cross-Chain Interoperability Protocol (CCIP)
The Cross-Chain Interoperability Protocol or CCIP is an important RWA tool for Chainlink. That’s because it can transfer RWAs and other assets between various blockchains. This is also a great way to create liquidity for the RWAs.
Providing Decentralized Proof of Reserve for RWAs
This is another interesting feature that benefits Chainlink’s role in RWAs. These Proof of Reserves can verify that an RWA is actually 100% backed by an off-chain reserve. This builds trust and security in RWAs. That’s essential, since many investors are not necessarily interested in the chain’s native token. However, their interest is in the tokenized underlying asset, like Apple stock.
The $LINK Price
The current $LINK price hovers around $25. That’s up almost 50% over the last 14 days. It has a $16 billion market cap. Out of the 1 billion $LINK tokens, only 678 million circulate after 7 1/2 years. That could be better.
The Verdict
So, here’s the showdown. Who is going to win this battle of the giants? Well, that’s a tough choice. Both are well positioned in the promising RWA sector. Chainlink brings in various years of experience. It’s a proven chain and product. On the other hand, Ondo still has a lot to prove. However, if it can prove this, for example with its Global Markets, it can moon.
Eventually, I can see both projects riding the waves for a long time to come. However, right now, it looks like Ondo Finance has the most room to grow. The reason is simple: its market cap is 5x smaller compared to Chainlink.
Chainlink should be good for a 4x, around $100. However, Ondo might pull off a 10x, bringing its price to $10. So, from that point of view, I pick Ondo Finance. If you look at the longer term, Chainlink should do well, with Ondo in its wake.
