US Midterms and Economic Data Could Move Crypto Markets

Crypto markets are heading into an important week as U.S. elections, employment data, technology earnings and Federal Reserve commentary converge between November 3 and November 6.

Bitcoin is already trading under pressure, while recent withdrawals from U.S. spot Bitcoin ETFs have raised questions about institutional demand. The coming events could add another layer of volatility by changing expectations around interest rates, economic growth and U.S. crypto regulation.

Some events have already taken place. October's ISM Manufacturing PMI came in at 55.5 on Monday, November 2, above September's 54.5 reading. Apple and Palantir were also scheduled to release earnings after the market closed that day.

Here are the remaining developments crypto traders should watch.

1. US Midterm Elections Put Crypto Regulation in Focus

The U.S. midterm elections are taking place on Tuesday, November 3. Voters are deciding control of Congress, with all 435 House seats and 35 Senate seats on the ballot.

The result matters to crypto because Congress plays a major role in shaping digital asset regulation. Lawmakers will influence the progress of market-structure legislation, stablecoin rules and the responsibilities of financial regulators.

A change in the balance of power could affect how quickly crypto-related legislation moves through Congress. It could also influence discussions around the regulatory responsibilities of the Securities and Exchange Commission and Commodity Futures Trading Commission.

However, the election outcome will not automatically change existing crypto rules. Any major legislative shift would still require lawmakers to introduce, negotiate and pass legislation.

For markets, uncertainty around the result could create short-term volatility. The longer-term effect will depend on which policies receive legislative support and how quickly they advance.

2. Friday's Jobs Report Could Change Fed Rate Expectations

The October U.S. employment report, scheduled for Friday, November 6, is arguably the most important economic release remaining this week.

The report will include nonfarm payroll growth, the unemployment rate and average hourly earnings.

Current market estimates cited by Investing.com point to approximately 63,000 new jobs and an unemployment rate of 4.2%. Average hourly earnings are expected to increase by 0.3% month over month. These are estimates, not confirmed results.

The numbers matter because employment conditions influence the Federal Reserve's interest-rate decisions.

A stronger than expected report could suggest that the economy remains resilient. That may reduce expectations for near-term rate cuts and support higher Treasury yields or a stronger dollar.

A weaker report could increase expectations of monetary easing if investors believe the labor market is deteriorating.

Both outcomes can affect Bitcoin and other cryptocurrencies. Lower interest-rate expectations can improve liquidity conditions and support demand for riskier assets. Higher rates can make investors more selective about speculative investments.

The relationship is not automatic, however. A weak jobs report could also create concerns about economic growth, which may pressure crypto alongside other risk assets.

3. ADP and JOLTS Will Offer More Clues About Employment

Before Friday's employment report, investors will receive additional labor-market information.

September's JOLTS job openings report is scheduled for Tuesday, November 3. It will provide details about available positions, hiring and workers leaving their jobs.

October's ADP private-sector employment report follows on Wednesday, November 4.

These reports offer different views of the labor market. JOLTS measures job openings and labor turnover, while ADP estimates private-sector employment changes.

For crypto traders, the main question is whether employment conditions are cooling gradually or weakening more sharply.

A decline in job openings and slower hiring could strengthen expectations for lower interest rates. However, a sharp deterioration in employment could also increase fears of an economic slowdown.

The Federal Reserve will consider a broader range of indicators rather than relying on either report alone.

4. ISM Services and Tech Earnings Could Shape Risk Appetite

Wednesday also brings October's ISM Services PMI, which measures activity across the U.S. services sector.

Manufacturing activity already expanded in October, with the ISM Manufacturing PMI reaching 55.5. The services reading will help investors understand whether economic activity remains strong beyond manufacturing.

The prices component will also be important. Strong business activity combined with persistent price pressures could make it harder for the Federal Reserve to lower interest rates.

Technology earnings provide another part of the picture.

Apple and Palantir were scheduled to report on Monday, November 2. AMD and Super Micro Computer (SMCI) are scheduled to report on Tuesday, November 3, after the market closes.

AMD's results and guidance could offer clues about demand for data-center processors and AI infrastructure. Super Micro's update could provide further insight into demand for AI servers and the costs of expanding computing capacity.

These companies are not direct measures of crypto demand. However, their results can influence sentiment toward technology and growth investments.

If investors become concerned about AI spending or technology valuations, the resulting risk-off mood could spill into cryptocurrencies. Strong results and guidance could have the opposite effect by supporting broader risk appetite.

5. Fed Speakers and Consumer Sentiment Could Add More Volatility

Several Federal Reserve officials are scheduled to speak during the remaining week.

The schedule includes Cleveland Fed President Beth Hammack and Richmond Fed President Thomas Barkin on Thursday. New York Fed President John Williams, St. Louis Fed President Alberto Musalem and Federal Reserve Vice Chair Michelle Bowman are among the speakers scheduled for Friday.

Traders will listen for comments about inflation, employment conditions and the timing of possible rate changes.

Even without a new policy decision, remarks from Fed officials can move Treasury yields and the U.S. dollar if they change expectations about future monetary policy.

Friday also brings the preliminary November University of Michigan consumer sentiment report. The release includes consumers' inflation expectations, which are important because persistent inflation concerns could influence the Fed's policy outlook.

If inflation expectations rise, markets may become more cautious about future rate cuts. Lower expectations could ease some concerns, although the Fed will still consider actual inflation and other economic data.

What Crypto Traders Should Watch Next

The remaining calendar has several potential catalysts, but not all carry the same importance for digital assets.

The U.S. midterm elections could influence the future direction of crypto regulation. Employment data and Fed commentary may have a more immediate effect on interest-rate expectations, liquidity and risk appetite.

Technology earnings could also influence sentiment toward speculative investments, particularly if results raise concerns about the sustainability of AI infrastructure spending.

Crypto markets have additional developments to follow. Cardano's Amaru block-producing node mainnet launch and Zcash's NU7 mainnet launch are scheduled for November 5. These are project-specific developments rather than broad macroeconomic catalysts.

For Bitcoin, the combination of recent ETF withdrawals and broader market uncertainty makes institutional flows another important indicator to monitor. A return to positive ETF flows could help improve sentiment, while continued withdrawals may reinforce caution.

The week is not simply about whether Bitcoin rises or falls. It is about how investors respond to changing expectations for U.S. economic growth, monetary policy and crypto regulation.

By Friday, traders will have a clearer picture of the employment market, services activity and the direction of Fed commentary. Those developments could help determine whether risk appetite improves or remains under pressure.
