White House to meet crypto and prediction market executives on August 19

The White House is expected to meet crypto and prediction market executives on August 19 as the CLARITY Act remains stalled in the Senate.

White House crypto executives meeting on August 19

The White House is expected to host executives from the crypto and prediction market industries on August 19, according to a Politico report cited in the source material.

The meeting comes as the CLARITY Act faces continued obstacles in the Senate and could become an important opportunity to discuss the regulatory issues holding up the legislation.

The timing is also notable because the meeting is scheduled just one day before the Commodity Futures Trading Commission's (CFTC) inaugural Innovation Advisory Committee meeting, where crypto regulation is expected to be among the topics discussed.

White House plans meeting with crypto executives

The White House is expected to hold the meeting on August 19, although details about the event remain limited.

According to the Politico report, the information comes from people familiar with the matter. The identities of all attendees have not yet been confirmed.

Traditional finance executives could also participate, while President Donald Trump’s attendance remains unclear.

The meeting comes at an important moment for the U.S. crypto industry.

Related: The Senate is scheduled to hold a key procedural vote on the CLARITY Act on September 15, with Republicans needing at least seven Democratic votes to reach the 60-vote cloture threshold. The White House has already warned that the bill could fail without enough Democratic support.

The sector has been pushing for the Senate to advance the CLARITY Act, which is designed to establish a broader regulatory framework for digital assets.

However, the legislation continues to face disagreements between the crypto and traditional banking industries.

Stablecoin yields remain a major obstacle

One of the biggest points of disagreement involves stablecoin yields.

Banking groups have pushed back against provisions that could allow stablecoin issuers or other crypto companies to offer rewards linked to stablecoin holdings.

The concern is that these products could compete with traditional bank deposits and potentially pull money away from the banking system.

An ethics provision has also emerged as another obstacle to the legislation.

These disagreements have made bipartisan support more difficult, with the Senate needing enough support to invoke cloture and move the bill forward.

That makes the White House meeting particularly significant.

If executives from the crypto and traditional financial sectors are able to discuss these concerns directly, the gathering could help identify compromises on some of the issues preventing the bill from advancing.

CFTC advisory meeting adds to regulatory focus

The White House gathering will take place just one day before the CFTC's Innovation Advisory Committee holds its inaugural meeting.

The CFTC has already released the agenda for the meeting, with participants expected to discuss issues surrounding innovation and digital-asset regulation.

The close timing of the two events puts U.S. crypto regulation firmly in focus next week.

The White House meeting could address industry concerns at the policy level, while the CFTC advisory committee will provide another forum for discussing how digital assets and prediction markets should fit into the regulatory framework.

However, the source material does not confirm that the two meetings are directly coordinated.

CLARITY Act odds rise slightly

The reported White House meeting has also provided a small boost to expectations that the CLARITY Act could become law this year.

According to Polymarket data cited in the source material, there is currently a 17% chance that President Trump will sign the crypto bill into law in 2026.

The probability remains low, but the meeting could improve sentiment if it helps resolve some of the disagreements currently blocking the legislation.

One issue that could receive attention is the ethics provision.

The Senate is currently waiting on a bipartisan ethics package proposed by Senators Thom Tillis and Ruben Gallego. The White House had not given its approval to the proposal before the Senate entered its August recess.

Stablecoin yields could also become part of the discussion.

Resolving the concerns raised by banking groups could be important for building the bipartisan support needed to invoke cloture and advance the CLARITY Act.

August 19 could become an important date for crypto regulation

The timing of the White House meeting gives the crypto industry several things to watch.

First, investors will want to know which crypto and prediction market executives attend and whether major traditional finance representatives also participate.

Second, any indication of progress on the stablecoin yield debate could affect expectations around the CLARITY Act.

Third, developments surrounding the ethics provision could provide clues about whether lawmakers are getting closer to a bipartisan agreement.

And finally, the CFTC Innovation Advisory Committee's meeting on August 20 could provide additional insight into how U.S. regulators are approaching digital assets and prediction markets.

For now, the CLARITY Act remains stalled, and the 17% Polymarket probability shows that traders are still far from confident that the bill will become law this year.

But the White House meeting gives the industry another opportunity to address the issues standing in its way.

August 19 could therefore become an important date for the next phase of U.S. crypto regulation.
