Hunter Biden's $LAPTOP memecoin is now live on Base, recording extreme volatility and millions of dollars in early trading activity.

Hunter Biden’s controversial new memecoin, $LAPTOP, is now live on Base, turning the infamous laptop saga into a tradable crypto asset. The token launched on September 9 with a fixed supply of 1 billion LAPTOP and immediately saw extreme volatility and heavy speculative activity.
The project describes $LAPTOP as a memecoin designed to “reclaim the narrative” surrounding Hunter Biden’s laptop. The official website identifies the token as an entertainment and community-participation project and explicitly states that it does not provide equity, ownership, dividends, yield, or other economic rights.
The market data show how quickly $LAPTOP moved after trading began. One screenshot shows a market capitalization of approximately $98.9 billion, while the second shows $34.45 billion in market cap and $98.43 billion in fully diluted valuation (FDV).

The difference comes from the way the platforms are calculating circulating and fully diluted values at different moments. With the official tokenomics showing 350 million $LAPTOP unlocked at launch, an FDV near $98.4 billion corresponds to a token price of roughly $98.43, while the circulating market cap is approximately $34.45 billion.
$LAPTOP trading around $94.44, with reported liquidity of $16.7 million, approximately $7.9 million in 24-hour volume, 12,103 transactions and 4,752 traders. Buyers significantly outnumbered sellers in the displayed snapshot, with 9,460 buys against 2,643 sells.
$15.9 million in volume, 24,911 buys and 10,061 sells, with 13,213 buyers versus 4,139 sellers. The same screen displayed a 173,766% 24-hour price increase, highlighting just how extreme the launch-day volatility has been.
Because these figures were captured at different times and through different market-data interfaces, they should be treated as launch snapshots rather than a stable market valuation.
$LAPTOP is a Base based memecoin created around Hunter Biden and the laptop controversy that became a major political story during the 2020 U.S. presidential election.
Hunter Biden confirmed the token on X on September 7 by posting “$LAPTOP” alongside the September 9 launch date. The token is being positioned as a way for him to take control of a narrative that has followed him for years.
The official Base contract listed by the project is 0xB095274743941e953c746F9C228DA9c18Bb6ec29. The official website also warns users that digital assets are volatile and that the token can fall to zero.
The project has set the total supply at 1 billion $LAPTOP. According to the official tokenomics, 35% of the supply is unlocked at token generation, while the remaining allocation follows a longer vesting and distribution schedule.
Founders, including Hunter Biden, are allocated 30% of the total supply. The official structure says these tokens are subject to lockups and vesting. Another 20% is allocated to airdrops, 10% to liquidity, 5% to the foundation treasury and 5% to charity.
The remaining 30% is tied to a prediction mechanism involving 30 real-world events. When the specified outcomes occur, the corresponding tokens can be burned. If the outcomes do not occur, the tokens are designated for charity under the project's rules.
Some of the prediction conditions are directly connected to political and crypto events, including Bitcoin reaching a new all-time high and $LAPTOP surpassing $TRUMP in fully diluted valuation. A portion of the supply is therefore linked to outcomes outside the crypto market itself.
One of the most unusual elements of the launch is its airdrop strategy.
Twenty percent of the total supply is designated for airdrops, with part of the allocation aimed at eligible wallets that lost money on Donald Trump’s $TRUMP memecoin. Another portion is intended for Hunter Biden's Substack audience and future community distributions.
This creates a direct connection between two politically themed memecoins. $TRUMP became one of the largest political memecoin launches after its debut in January 2025, but its value subsequently fell sharply from its early peak. LAPTOP is now using some of that losing investor base as part of its initial distribution strategy.

The launch-day screenshots make one thing clear: $LAPTOP has attracted substantial speculative interest almost immediately.
The second screenshot shows a 15-minute chart with the token reaching a market-cap level above $100 billion before pulling back toward the $33 billion - $35 billion range. It also records more than 12,000 transactions and millions of dollars in trading volume.
That type of price movement is typical of a newly launched memecoin with limited initial liquidity and a large amount of attention concentrated around the launch. The reported liquidity of roughly $16.7 million is particularly important because it is much smaller than the token's implied valuation. A relatively modest amount of buying or selling can therefore produce significant price swings.
The market data should also be separated from unofficial $LAPTOP copycats. Multiple tokens using the same name appeared across different networks before the official Base launch. The official project identifies the Base contract above, so traders need to verify the contract before interacting with the token.
The launch adds another high-profile political token to an increasingly crowded market. Trump and Melania Trump previously demonstrated how political personalities could generate enormous attention for memecoins, although those assets also experienced significant volatility after their initial launches.
$LAPTOP takes that model a step further by directly connecting its distribution and token-burning mechanism to political events and another major political memecoin.
For now, the most important development is the launch itself. $LAPTOP has gone from a heavily promoted political meme to a live Base asset with billions of dollars in implied valuation and millions of dollars in early trading activity. Whether that valuation survives beyond the launch-day frenzy will depend on liquidity, sustained demand and the project's ability to retain attention after the initial political narrative fades.
