Schroders Brings Emerging Market Bond Fund to Solana via Centrifuge

Schroders, an asset manager with over $1 trillion under management, now has a fund on Solana. On Wednesday, 4 November, Centrifuge launched a tokenized version of the Schroder International Selection Fund Emerging Market Bond fund. It is Schroders' first deployment on the network.
The interesting part is the kind of fund it chose. Schroders didn't arrive with another tokenized cash product. It arrived with emerging markets debt, a strategy with very different risks and returns.
A First Fund That Isn't Cash
Most tokenized funds so far have looked a lot like a savings account with a blockchain wrapper. Centrifuge says so directly.
"Until now, onchain fixed income has largely been built around cash and short-duration government securities," said Anil Sood of Centrifuge. "Emerging markets debt introduces a fundamentally different source of risk and return."
That is a meaningful choice for a first outing. A brand usually tests a new channel with its safest, simplest product. Schroders picked a strategy where its own expertise is the point: it has invested in emerging markets debt for more than 50 years and has more than 40 dedicated professionals on that team, according to the announcement.
Marita Mcginley, Schroders' Head of Operations for APAC and Digital Assets, described the move plainly: "we are tokenising this specific investment strategy and issuing it on Solana, marking our first deployment on the network."
What Solana Gets From the Deal
For Solana, the win is less about one fund and more about the type of product it can now point to. Nick Ducoff, Head of Institutional Growth at the Solana Foundation, framed it as a shift in what the market is ready for.
"We are moving beyond tokenized cash products toward a market where sophisticated, actively managed strategies can be issued, distributed and integrated on public blockchain infrastructure," he said.
Centrifuge says Solana already holds more than $4 billion in tokenized real-world asset value. Real-world assets, or RWAs, are things like bonds and fund shares represented as tokens. That figure comes from Centrifuge's announcement and we have not checked it against an independent tracker.
Solana has been collecting products aimed at professional money. Earlier, Universal brought its USDU stablecoin to Solana for professional clients. A bond fund from a manager of Schroders' size adds a different shelf to that store.
There is a small word worth noticing in the announcement: the fund "initially launches" on Solana. It is a gentle hint that Solana is the first stop rather than the only one, though no other network has been named.
Questions the Announcement Leaves Open
The announcement tells us what launched and why the partners think it matters. It does not yet answer the questions a would-be investor would ask first.
- Who can buy it. Investor eligibility, such as whether it is limited to professional or accredited investors, has not been confirmed.
- How much it takes. No minimum investment or fee schedule has been published in the sources we reviewed.
- Which token to look for. A token ticker and contract address have not been confirmed from a primary source.
- How big it is. There is no figure yet for launch size or early inflows.
Those details will show whether this is a fund ordinary crypto holders can actually touch, or a product built for institutions that happens to live onchain. Both are useful for Solana. They are just different stories.
For now, the clearest signal is the choice itself. A manager with half a century in emerging markets debt chose Solana for its first deployment on the network, and chose to bring something other than tokenized cash. The next thing to watch is whether money follows.
