Sonic Unveils Season 2 S Token Airdrop

After a successful Season 1 that helped onboard around 100,000 daily users, the platform boosted a thriving DeFi ecosystem.

This next phase of the airdrop introduces a smarter, more sustainable approach to rewarding users. It focuses entirely on real activity, not just holding assets.

Goodbye Passive Points, Hello Real Engagement

In Season 1, users could earn points just by holding certain tokens, known as whitelisted assets. This passive system helped new users get comfortable with Sonic and encouraged early participation. But now that the foundation is in place, Season 2 is emphasizing what truly matters: How users interact with the network.

Passive points are out. Starting June 18, only activity points will count. That means users will need to take real action. For example, providing liquidity on decentralized exchanges, lending, or engaging with other DeFi apps built on Sonic. This new system rewards users based on how they use the platform, not just how long they hold a token. Activity points will now simply be referred to as “points,” reflecting this shift in focus.

Sonic is also rolling out a new loyalty multiplier to reward long-term commitment. Users who actively participated in Season 1 will start Season 2 with a multiplier between 1.0 and 2.0. Continued activity can boost this up to 3.0. The multiplier only applies to individual wallet addresses (not smart contracts) and is designed to discourage short-term farming. It will update automatically and be visible in each user’s MySonic dashboard later in the season.

New Tokens, Reward Updates, and a Focus on Real Engagement

All previously eligible tokens will still count toward earning points, and new ones may be added during the season. Meanwhile, Sonic is holding off on announcing exactly how rewards will be distributed—liquid or vested—until three months in. This gives the team time to assess what worked in Season 1 and make improvements based on real user data.

This shift mirrors a broader trend across Web3: rewarding genuine participation instead of speculative behavior. Protocols like Optimism and EigenLayer are also designing incentives that promote meaningful use over time, and Sonic is following suit with a model built for growth.
