Polkadot Launches Blockchain Course for UK Policymakers

The Polkadot Blockchain Academy (PBA) will offer legislative officials their first course on Web3 and the crypto regulatory framework.

The Blockchain Basics for Policymakers certification program will be held from April 6 to April 8, 2025, in Zug, Switzerland, a region known as “Crypto Valley.” Polkadot is taking a big step toward educating policymakers about blockchain technology.

Why This Matters

The UK crypto sector is growing fast, and with that growth comes the need for explicit and informed regulations. That’s why UK parliament members (MPs) from major political parties will attend this course. Leading the delegation is Lisa Cameron, a former MP and the founder of the UKUS Crypto Alliance.

According to Cameron, policymakers must understand blockchain to create better crypto regulation in the UK.

This course comes at a critical time. In January 2025, the UK Treasury made a legal change regarding crypto staking. The new ruling stated that crypto staking is not a collective investment scheme, so it avoids the strict regulatory requirements that apply to such schemes.

The UK government has committed to presenting an initial crypto regulation draft before early 2025. With this in motion, now is the perfect time for Members of Parliament to deepen their understanding of the financial sector.

The Role of Policymakers in Blockchain’s Future

According to Chrissy Hill, policymakers play a key role in blockchain’s future. She is the chief legal officer and interim COO at Parity Technologies. Policymakers working with blockchain often lack proper training. This makes it hard to explain how it works and regulate it effectively. Polkadot Blockchain Academy connects policymakers with the right tools. This helps them create safeguards while supporting innovation.

The Polkadot Blockchain Academy plans to expand its programs. It aims to reach key locations worldwide. Polkadot plays an active role in developing blockchain governance. It achieves this through its established programs. These programs deliver formal policy learning.
