Dapper Labs have been looking to solve the problem of scalability ever since their development of CryptoKitties in November 2017. Finally, they have found the solution: to develop a new blockchain. Called Flow, it is built to enable decentralized applications at scale. On top of this, Dapper Labs have also raised $11m with the help of the prominent Andreessen Horowitz’s crypto fund.

Other big names who participated in this funding include Warner Music Group, Union Square Ventures, Venrock, AppWorks, Digital Currency Group, Autonomous Partners, Fenbushi Digital, Animoca Brands, SV Angel, Version One, CMT, and CoinFund.

Roham Gharegozlou, CEO of Dapper Labs, emphasized: “Sharding is a good solution for payments, but not for an ecosystem of complex applications like games or social networks. After nearly two years of research, we are happy to present Flow, a blockchain design that can meet mainstream developer and consumer expectations without sharding the network or compromising decentralization.”

Utility of Flow

With the involvement of big entertainment names like Warner Music Group, Ubisoft and Animoca Brands, Flow’s use cases have vastly expanded. Artists and bands will be able to give huge quantities of crypto assets to their fans for their support. Sports fans will be able to trade authentic limited edition digital sports assets in real-time. Transfer of game items and persona between multiple games. The possibilities are endless.

Jeff Bronikowski, SVP, Global Digital Business Development and Head of Innovation and Emerging Technology at Warner Music Group further commented, “Warner Music is always searching for new opportunities for our artists and has dedicated itself to exploring emerging technologies to enable these. When we met with Dapper Labs, they immediately understood our vision so we sought to solidify the partnership through this strategic investment.”

Integration of Flow into the Dapper Lab ecosystem

The Dapper Wallet will support Ethereum and Flow. It will allow users to access both networks in one place. CryptoKitties and Cheese Wizards NFTs will continue to be on the Ethereum blockchain. However, once Flow goes live, users will be able to take CryptoKitties into application on Flow.

Flow is launching in 2020. However, there are some ways to get early access. For instance, if you use the Dapper Wallet or play CryptoKitties and Cheese Wizards.

As mentioned above, Flow will not be ready until next year. But, they want to get the community involved as much as possible. There is a lot for everyone: be it a developer, content creator or someone looking for a job. There will be more details about Flow partners soon as well as many updates in the months to come.
